Ryan Minor, a former star baseball and basketball player for Oklahoma, passed away on Friday afternoon after a year-long fight with colon cancer.

In the fall of 2022, 49-year-old Minor received a Stage IV colon cancer diagnosis. Ryan’s death was verified by his twin brother Damon Minor, a former baseball player for the Oklahoma and San Francisco Giants, via X, the app that was formerly known as Twitter.

Born on January 5, 1974, Damon Minor played first base in professional baseball for the San Francisco Giants. In 2005, he spent a year as a player with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan. He is the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats hitting coach.

On September 2, 2000, Damon made his major league debut for the San Francisco Giants. He played in ten games that season. He had 19 major league appearances in 2001, spending the majority of the year with Triple-A Fresno.

Ryan, Minor’s twin brother, played Major League Baseball with the Montreal Expos and Baltimore Orioles. From 1993 to 1995, they were Oklahoma teammates.
